Facial Slimming (Masseter Relaxation)
The masseter muscle lies at the angle of the jaw and responsible for closing the jaw when chewing. It can be felt when clenching your back teeth, as a bulging muscle at the angle of the jaw. This muscle is more prominent in males, those with strong genetics and in those who practice excessive teeth grinding (bruxism), and responsible for the appearance of a wide jaw. Widening or squaring of the jaw may be desirable in men, it often is not a desired look for females.
Botulinum Toxin injections within this muscle can produce relaxation and hence weakens and shrinks the size of the muscle, thus producing a ‘slimming effect’ in the lower face. This is known as facial slimming. Additionally, the procedure is also a medical treatment for bruxism and improves relaxation in those who practice teeth griding.
Facial slimming also benefits females from a more balanced side profile highlighting the cheeks and adding further definition and contour to the face, thus producing a femininizing appearance.Book a Consultation
