Gummy Smile

A gummy smile occurs when there is significant exposure of the gums on smiling. This is caused by a strong contraction of the upper lip muscles, excessively elevating the upper lip (which can almost disappear on smiling). The disproportionate gum to teeth ratio creates the so called gummy smile. This appearance may cause some individuals to refrain from smiling and laughing in social situations which may knock their confidence.
A small injection of Botulinum Toxin to either side to the lower nose is a safe, quick and effective solution to the gummy smile. It relaxes this muscle to prevent it from raising the lip, so when the individual smiles, the gum has reduced exposure or none at all.
