Lower Face Volume Loss
The natural loss of facial volume and skin integrity (increased elasticity and collagen loss) associated with age leads to similar changes in the lower face, as with the midface.
This causes a reduced support structure in the lower face creating the appearance of sagging tissues and new shadows and wrinkles. Loss of lower facial volume results in the so called jowl development at the jaw and new diagonal lines or shadows between the corner of the mouth and jaw, known as marionette lines. Although part of the natural aging process, adverse lifestyle factors such as smoking, excess alcohol, poor diet and excessive sun exposure are known to play a role in their development.
Dermal filler can be carefully placed in the lower at either the jawline or alongside the Marionette lines themselves. It acts to provide alterative support and volume to the underlying fat and thus provides a gentle lift, reduced shadows and more youthful appearance.Book a Consultation
