Marionette Lines (Downturned Mouth)

These are lines that develop between the corner of the mouth and the jawline.

They often give the impression that the individual is ‘sad or unhappy’. The formation of these folds often are the result of a combination of lower face volume loss associated with the normal aging process but genetics and lifestyle factors can also play a large role in their development.

There are two potential treatment options for the correction of such lines. Firstly, a carefully placed injection with Botulinum Toxin can be administered into a muscle either side below the mouth acting to cause relaxation and prevent overaction for pulling the mouth downwards. We term this Botulinum Toxin for a downturned mouth. Alternatively, dermal filler can be placed alongside the lines and provide additional support and volume deficit and thus softening their appearance.
