Contracture / Tight / Painful Implant

When a breast implant is placed in the body, a layer of scar tissue froms around the outside. This is the bodies response to the foreign object and serves to isolate it. We refer to this as a capsule.
Over time this capsule can become tighter and start to squeeze the implant which is referred to as capsular contracture. In mild cases this cuases the breast to feel firm but it looks normal. In severe cases it causes a hard, painful breast and distorts the implant. It is one of the most common reasons for women to replace their implants.
During your consultation Mr West will examine your chest and discuss what your aims from surgery are. Depending on the severity of the contracture Mr West will suggest a plan to restore the shape and feeling of your implants. This could include removing the old implants with the capsule and exchanging them for new ones.
