Muscle Separation / Tummy Bulge

Muscle Separation / Tummy Bulge

Following pregnancy, the rectus abdominus muscles (6 pack) can become stretched and separate.

This is called diastasis recti. Patients often notice a bulge in the tummy that can get worse during exercise. Improving core strength can help improve the bulge, however in more severe cases the muscle needs to be repaired surgically (rectus plication). This is usually done at the same time as tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or in combination with other procedures as part of a ‘mummy makeover’.

During your consultation Mr West will examine your tummy and discuss what your desired outcomes are. Based upon this assessment, and if appropriate, Mr West will suggest a plan to repair the separation of the muscles and contour the skin and fat of the abdomen to restore a tighter, more shapely figure.
