Arm Lift

An upper arm lift (brachioplasty) is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and loose skin from your underarms.

What is an arm lift?

The outpatient procedure is the most effective way to get rid of bat wings, as they’re commonly called. Aging, genetics, and significant weight fluctuations (particularly after significant weight loss or bariatric surgery) can all contribute to sagging arm skin, which can’t be tightened by exercise and diet alone.

Who will benefit from an arm lift?

Ideal candidate for thigh lift will be a non-smoker who’s near their ideal weight, follows a healthy lifestyle, and has realistic expectations about their procedure. Their arms should have significant excess skin or significant sagging from a loss of elasticity that can’t be remedied with exercise or nonsurgical solutions.

Frequently asked questions

Arm lift surgery takes 1–3 hours. It’s usually performed under general anaesthesia, though less complex arm lifts can be done with local anaesthesia and IV sedation.

It usually takes four to six weeks before patients are feeling 100% normal again. During this time, you’ll need to limit your range of motion and keep your incision sites stable. The initial post-surgery recovery can be uncomfortable, but the discomfort tends to abate after three or four days. You may be instructed to wear compression garments for up to four weeks.

You’ll be under general anaesthesia during the surgical procedure, so you won’t feel anything until you wake up. You may have a prescription for pain medication, to help you through the first few days. You can also expect your arms to look swollen and feel tight and tender.

Arm lift results can last a decade or more, assuming your weight remains stable. Our skin naturally loses elasticity as we age, so may want to consider nonsurgical skin-tightening treatments to ensure the longevity of your new look.
