Breast Implant Removal

If you have had breast implants and you have decided you do not want them anymore, they can be surgically removed.

What is Breast Implant Removal?

There are a lot of reasons you might want to change the shape or size of your breasts. Breast implant removal is the surgical procedure to remove the breast implant without replacing or exchanging the implant with a new implant along with dividing or removing some or all the capsule around the implant. Removal may give the breast a deflated appearance, some women opt for additional surgery in the form of implant replacement or breast uplift without implants.

Who would benefit from breast implant removal?
Suitable candidates are the ones who would like to address health concerns, implant failure, or complications—though some women simply want a more natural aesthetic or smaller breast size

Frequently asked questions

En bloc resection, or capsulectomy, means that the entire capsule surrounding the implant is removed, intact, with the implant inside. While the procedure has become more mainstream of late, it’s really only indicated in the case of a medically necessary breast implant removal.

Barring an en bloc procedure, the recovery following the removal of breast implants tends to be easier than the initial surgery to place the implants. You’ll likely be sore, but there’s usually a minimal amount of pain, and narcotics aren’t usually required for longer than a day.  You’ll be able to resume normal daily activities, like showering, eating, and walking, within 24 hours of surgery. You may even be able to return to work after a day or two, as long as your job doesn’t require heavy lifting.

You’ll see smaller breasts immediately after you remove breast implants, but it will take time for any swelling and postoperative changes to subside before you see your final result.
