Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical technique to reduce unwanted deposits of fat from specific areas of the body.

What is liposuction?

This is not a substitute for weight reduction, but a method for reducing localized deposits of fatty tissue that do not respond to diet or exercise. Liposuction may be performed as a primary procedure for body contouring or may be combined with other surgical techniques such as facelift, abdominoplasty, or thigh lift. It is also used to harvest fat grafting to other areas.

Who will benefit from liposuction?

Good candidates are healthy non-smokers who meet these requirements for liposuction:

BMI (body mass index) of 30 or below

good skin tone and elasticity

age 18 or older

Why choose us?

We offer Vaser Lipo which is a high technology form of liposuction where ultrasound waves are used to assist with the breakdown of fat before its aspiration. It results in less pain and bruising and you go home the same day. It is important to choose a surgeon who is well-experienced and is a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) for your surgery for your peace of mind. You will be looked after our expert surgeon and nursing team. We also provide excellent personal aftercare programs and our experienced medical team will discuss and plan any treatment with you in detail.

Frequently asked questions

Liposuction should not hurt, thanks to the anaesthesia. Liposuction recovery, however, can be painful. Expect to feel sore, especially during the first few days post-op. You’ll be swollen and bruised, and you’ll need time to recover before you head back to work.

Liposuction recovery takes 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the extent of your procedure. You’ll have some swelling, bruising, and inflammation as well as some numbness and nerve pain. All this should improve within six weeks. Your doctor will prescribe pain medication, though you may find you need only an over-the-counter pain reliever. Most people can return to all of their regular activities, including exercise, within 3–4 weeks.

A good compression garment is essential to minimize swelling and bruising, help the skin smoothly adhere to the underlying tissue, and speed up healing. Patients wear them 24/7 (with a break for showering) for at least two weeks, gradually reducing the number of hours they need to be worn over a period of three or more weeks.

You should notice an improved body contour immediately, but your initial results will be disguised by swelling. This should improve dramatically within six weeks and continue to go down over the next six months.

Liposuction does permanently remove fat cells. That said, your results will last as long as you maintain a stable weight. A healthy diet and regular exercise are key, as soon as you feel well enough to start moving again.
